[fanfic] [casshern sins] a fall from you is a long way down

It was a moment in time, frozen, immaculate. Like a diamond in the air, hanging, immovable object of the future. You stood before it in a dream or was it an old memory inside your head? You could never tell, never separate your consciousness from the old you and the new you. The new you who feared, who cared, who wished for a better world and then realized this was the better world.

You remember Dio being there, standing beside you. You remember a faint prickling of a feeling at your senses, the snatches of a human emotion which vanished as quickly as its realization. Dio shifted his leg as he looked at the sun, bright, white, burning down on their backs. There was grass below their feet, but he couldn’t feel it.

The scenes moves, now with rapidness, with time fast forwarding and they slap you with images of Dio, of Leda, of the Braiking Boss ruffling his hair with fondness, of Dio lurking behind him, his nails scraping your back as you pass, of Leda’s disdain of you and your nothingness. And there were eyes always watching, but nothing mattered to you since you were made of nothingness.

And now you wake up, standing in the middle of the garden you and Lyuze has built for Ringo, for themselves, of green, warm, growing things. Of hope when he gave up on it. And he could see Lyuze resting on the swing, creaking gently in the evening, her eyes fluttering with lethargy. And he thought dying thoughts, futile thoughts of all that will be lost here eventual, eventually.

And he cried.
