For the longest time, everything tasted bitter. The sand in his shoes hurt, the scrapes on his knees bled, the water in his half-empty glass that the constable poured out for him while looking above with sympathy in his eyes. God, was that look utterly predictable? It said, "I know your type, James Tiberius Kirk. I know what you are made of."
Nobody knows what he's made of. He kept that bit hidden. But sometimes, Jim often forgot what he was hiding, why he was hiding it. Sam just kept on running. Jim kept on hiding. For what?
That look never truly stopped, not until he established himself at Starfleet. Yet those looks changed into a twisted form of admiration and they kept saying, "Look at you James Tiberius Kirk. Look at you."
Conforming bastards. School's just a game. All you need to do to win is to play by the rules.... or bend them to your favour.
Jim preferred bending of all kinds.
It took him one crazy Romulan bastard, a black hole and the end of the Federation as they knew it to get what he was looking for. He walked through that door and there it was, in blinding light.
"We believe you, James Tiberius Kirk. We believe in you."
The sleek metal under his fingers was already warm to his touch. He conquered one Starship and crew. Now he was all set to get the universe.
