[fanfic] [Utena] Dominion

Utena draws circles in the sand, in the bed, in her head and says, "I dreamed today"

Anthy stands above her, heels digging into the sand, nails digging into Utena's skin, in her eyes and asks, "What did you see?"

Utena doesn't know how to reply, the memory costing her words as he replays it in her mind. Haltingly, she speaks, "I dreamed how you bewitched me into bed."

Anthy laughs and it's not a witch's laugh, but a laugh of bells and rings and the tide crashing onto the shore. The wind sweeps through her

hair, hiding her expression from Utena and she pushes the urge to take that hair and tug it away from her face, to see Anthy as she is meant to be seen.

"And was it such a bad bewitchment?" her fingers twirl (like she was casting a spell), her feet now almost teasingly grace the sand. She could walk on water if she wanted and Utena believed.

"I think it was," she replies quietly just as the waves slumped at her feet, receding back into the ocean, ruining her sandcastle, a tiny

thing, insginificant, but hers and gone, taken away. Anthy bends down to look Utena in the eye and Utena sees her as her, not the little witchling everyone knew her to be, a person who could make dreams come true, revolutions stored in her body like a divine coffin.

Anthy laughs again as if hearing Utena's thoughts in her head (maybe she could) and slips her hands around Utena's face, curves and caresses, and says, "Do you wish to be bewitched?"

Utena closes her eyes and imagines what Anthy should be; a witch? a coffin? perhaps she should be a sword to wield.

She opens her eyes and it is Anthy the girl who left the castle, Anthy with the long tresses of hair falling over her eyes, Anthy, wearing a straw hat she bought the day before, and she says, "No."

And Anthy's lips curve (is it a smile? she's never sure what is and what isn't with Anthy) and she says, "The only one who was bewitched was me"

"I know," says Utena, as the tide returns, "...I know."
