"Captain, stop whining," Loki said, gritting his teeth and carrying the man delicately, one arm under his shoulders, "Your left arm is fractured, you are bleeding, you can't see straight and you refuse to go simply because that man is there?"
"You don't know Bones like I do," Jim whined dramatically, "He'll kill me."
"Not if I get there first," Loki muttered, "You should have moved your arm out of the way."
"But he would have gutted us!"
No, he would have gutted me, Loki thought to himself, "It was foolish."
Jim gave him a lopsided smile, "Told you it would work."
Loki simply shook him in response and smirked at Jim's yelp of pain.
"James Tiberius Kirk!" someone bellowed into Jim's ear. He winced and dug a finger into it before facing his hollerer. There stood a giant of man with more muscles than hair and -- was that a cloak? He was wearing a cloak. Okay.
"Hi?" Jim ventured tentatively.
"We meet at last!" and oh my god, the man gave him a rib-shattering hug and Jim can see spots dancing in front of his eyes. Pulling himself away carefully and trying to breathe, Jim just said "What."
"I am Thor, Loki's brother!"
One of them has to be adopted, there's no other explanation.
"And I have come to congratulate you both on your successes!"
Yay.
Finally, Jim spoke, "Thank you for your ... support? Yeah. Support. Please don't crush me."
Thor squinted at him quizzically before adopting a mellower tone, "He may not say as much but I know he is pleased. With you."
Loki was furious, to say the least. Thor knew better to interfere in his affairs, at least Loki assumed so. But there he was, casually talking to Jim as if it was his place to do so. He seethed quietly for a moment, watching every smile flit by like a curse.
He can't have him. Loki found him first and Jim chose him. Jim could have anyone he liked. The son of two Jaeger pilors, a prodigy in the field, Jim could have his pick of cadets but he chose Loki.
But he could un-choose Loki as well.
Loki pushed down the noise of protest building up in his throat. Placing a vicious smirk on his face, he approached the two.
That will not happen. Not if he has anything to do with it.
what about that time Thor ends up unconscious in Medical and Loki is not dealing with it well except he tries to be like I DON'T CARE REALLY and Jim is all (unsure) at him
"What do you mean you're not going to visit?" Jim argued for like the tenth time, geez.
"I mean precisely what I said, James," Loki said icily and Jim could tell he's pissed because only Loki uses his given name like an insult (Jim uses his given name as an insult), "There is no point to me hovering around his bedside when there are attacks happening in our lives."
Jim made a frustrated sound, "But he's your brother! Also I know on good authority that Chekov and Sulu are dealing with the next attack with Sif and Jane, so technically we're off duty. So why won't you go?!"
Loki whirled around, eyes blazing and stalked into Jim's personal space, "Do you have any idea what it's like, seeing your brother like that?"
He swallowed, "I can guess."
The anger leeched out of Loki immediately. There was no sympathy, no pity ("Jim, your parents were great." "Jim, I'm sorry" "They were heroes." "They're dead." "Sam's gone" "You're nobody"), just a hard flinty look that no one could see, except Jim. Only Jim.
Jim calmly placed a hand on Loki's shoulder, fingers curling around his hair, "Let's go."
They called it Indra, after the Indian God of Thunder. The Kaiju was massive and dealt out plenty of electric shocks. They had two Jaegers there to deal with the threat. One of them was Starstruck Wolf, Jim and Loki's Jaeger. With his arm in a sling, Loki said nothing, refused to see Jim and flat out ignored him. He was the handicap once more.
The battle, though won, was a catastrophe. Three pilots were in the med bay, catatonic. Loki stepped into the stark white room, the cleanest place in the base and surveyed the scene. Chekov and Sulu were breathing quietly.
Spock was next to him, his brown eyes dark with shock. How would it feel to see a part of you ripped out?
Loki didn't know. He wished he did. With a terse command, he sent Spock away.
There was no blue in Jim's eyes, no smile, nothing, just a shell...
Loki stayed there for a week. He ignored his brother, ignored everything the way he ignored Jim, the way he shouldn't when he was chockful of guilty and resentment, jealous of Jim and Spock, scared that this was the end...
Loki can't tell which end he preferred anymore.
When Jim opened his eyes, Loki told him softly, "You are forbidden to leave me."
Jim wished he could say he saw it coming, but with Loki, he never seems to see anything coming, so it was a moot point altogether.
So when Loki dragged him off after speaking to Spock (seriously, what is it with him and Spock? So Spock and he were in the Drift a couple of times, big deal) and slammed him so hard against the wall that Jim saw stars. The next thing Jim saw was Loki's eyes, boring holes in him.
"What the fuck?" Jim said eloquently.
"I told you," Loki hissed, "You are not allowed to leave me."
"I didn't!" Jim protested for some reason.
"You did," Loki said, crowding in his space.
"So what if I spoke to Spock" Jim replied, feeling defensive, "Besides, if you talked to me more we wouldn't--,"
Without a word, Loki grabbed him by the collar and kissed him hard. And Jim forgot everything else.

Oh, fuck, he's being adopted too.
